Ocean Springs Sailing Squadron's Sailing Education Program is modeled after the US SAILING Association's Level 1 Small Boat Sailing Program. The course is broken down into brief classroom time followed by land drills and on-the-water drills. The course includes learning the parts of the sailboat, points of sail, basic knots, water safety, and boat rigging & de-rigging. Upon successful completion of the course material and practical testing, the student will receive a certificate from US SAILING. We currently use Sunfish, Flying Scots, and a variety of catamarans to teach our students.
Our Summer 2008 youth classes are two weeks long and split into a 9AM to 12PM morning class for ages 8 to 12 and a 1PM to 4PM afternoon class for ages 13 to 18. Each class has a maximum of 12 students. Fee for the 2 week course is $160 per child ($140 per child of OSYC members). O.S. Sailing
