As the summer begins to wind down the Ocean Springs Sailing Squadron would like to recognize the individuals who made this summer’s Youth Sailing Program a success. First, we would like to recognize OSYC Vice-Commodore John O’Shaughnessy for organizing, providing parts whenever we needed, and giving countless hours to the program. Also, thanks to the Ocean Springs Yacht Club for allowing us to use their club and boats as well as giving us continuous support.
We would also like to recognize Mrs. Karen Fleming and Mrs. Mary Sloan for volunteering their time to be our nursing staff this summer. They went above and beyond on numerous occasions by providing food, the use of their boats, and even driving to Maryland to pick up a donated Flying Scot. Thank-you ladies, I can’t imagine how we could have managed this summer without you.
Also, this summer wouldn’t have been possible without my fellow instructors, Page Portas and Jackson Weldon. I cannot express how much time and effort these two put into the program this summer. Thanks for everything.
Last but not least, we would like to thank our students and their parents for providing us the opportunity to teach sailing this summer. I hope everyone had fun learning to sail and gets a chance to get out on the water soon.
